Pumpkin's Pumpkin

Yesterday was completely gorgeous. Perfect, perfect fall weather. It was almost seventy degrees and sunny; Mason and I took full advantage by carving our pumpkins outside.

Alright, I know they're a little on the amateur side, but you try keeping a two-year-old's hand out of a pumpkin while simultaneously stabbing a knife into it. Anyways, Mason thinks they're beautiful.

Pumpkins, Ice Cream, and Some Really Tall Cornstalks

This weekend, I decided that I wasn't doing anything but spending time with my baby. No homework until Sunday night, no stressing about school, nothing. So that's exactly what I did. Mason and I had an amazing weekend. That little kid is such a complete joy to be around. I know it sounds completely corny but it's true. He's always laughing and his new favorite thing is to run around and "hide" (usually standing out in the open beside the wall or looking at me from beside the refrigerator) and ask me to find him. He's a crappy hider, but he's so, so funny.

Anyway, on Saturday we went to the pumpkin patch. Last year we'd gone with Aimee and Mads and the corn maze was a huge hit, so I thought Mason would really love it this year. Not so. Maybe the corn was just too tall.

Or maybe this guy had something to do with it.

But in any case, the kid was not amused,

insisted on being carried,

and wouldn't use his own legs or crack a smile until we were within arms length of the exit.

Fortunately, the wagon-pulling, the ice cream-eating, the cider-drinking, the pumpkin-picking, and even the picture-taking were all successful.

Cooking with Mason

Mmm, meat loaf.

The Park

I've been trying to make time for the park, before the weather gets too cold, and Mason's thrilled when we have time to get there after I'm done with school. It's not too often, unfortunately. I miss the park.

Back on the Bandwagon

Alright, I need to get back on this blogging thing, otherwise, Mason's going to look back and wonder why I completely ignored him for three months of his life. I've been busy, but he's been helping. Grading 85 tests, for example, gets done in no time, thanks to Mase.

While I've been busy with school, Mason's been busy learning up a storm. He counts to ten (skipping three, usually) and then throws in fourteen, eighteen, eleven. He says a jumble of letters: A, B, F, H, H, H, G, Q, P, LMNMN, Z! and can sing "You are my Sunshine", "Twinkle, Twinkle", and some strange Halloween song. He's funny, independent, smart, and he still makes me smile every time I look at him. He's also quite the artist:

So yeah.. we're still alive and very, very well. Now let's see if I can keep up with this blogging thing a little better, shall we?

Well, Excuse Me

Last night, as I was putting Mason's pajamas on, the following conversation ensued:

Me: (after a fairly long detailed explanation about my day at school [which I know means nothing to a two-year-old, but still, I like to keep him up-to-date on my life]) "... and that was Mommy's day!"

Mason: "Noisy!"

Me: (trying to listen to what he's hearing... but the house is completely silent) "What's noisy? I don't hear anything."

Mason: "Mommy noisy!"

Sorry, kid. Thought you cared.
